The Max Weber Foundation's Research Centre Ukraine in Lviv and the Bavarian Academy of Sciences award fellowships to historians and social scientists from the German and Ukrainian academic communities. Up to two fellows are supported each year.
Description:
The German-Ukrainian Fellowship Programme is designed for scholars in the humanities and social sciences whose research focuses on East-Central Europe and/or German-Ukrainian history. The fellowship provides funding for individual archival and library research in Ukraine or Germany, as well as for residencies dedicated to advancing a research project or undertaking intensive manuscript preparation, for a duration of up to six months.
In addition to supporting independent research, the programme places strong emphasis on fostering and deepening academic networks to enhance Ukrainian-German scholarly cooperation. Research stays are envisaged either in Ukraine (preferably at the RCU in Lviv) or in Germany (preferably in Munich).
Selection is based on academic excellence and the relevance of the proposed research project to the research priorities of the Research Centre Ukraine.
Your profile:
The programme is intended for doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers in the humanities and social sciences who are affiliated with a research institution in either Germany or Ukraine, and whose work centres on East-Central Europe and/or German-Ukrainian history.
Funding:
Fellows receive supporting guidance from the Research Centre Ukraine in Lviv, along with assistance with travel and other logistical arrangements. Moreover, academic exchange and networking - both within the Research Centre and with external partners in Ukraine and Germany - are actively supported.
The fellowship provides a monthly stipend of €1,920 for doctoral candidates and €2,760 for postdoctoral researchers. In addition, a child allowance of €480 is granted for the first child and €120 for each subsequent child. Applicants are kindly requested to consult the current scholarship guidelines for detailed information regarding the conditions of funding.
